Soumitra Chatterjee was an Indian film actor, writer, poet, thespian, playwright, and play director who primarily worked in the Bengali film industry. He is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential actors in the history of Indian cinema. He received numerous awards, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award (India's highest award in cinema) and France's highest civilian honour, the Commandeur de la Légion d'Honneur. He was also honoured with the Padma Bhushan, India's third-highest civilian award.
