Ankita Chakraborty

Ankita Chakraborty is an Indian actress and model who primarily works in Bengali films, television dramas, theatre, and web series. She has also worked in Hindi and Sikkimese-language television serials, web series, and cinema. She won the West Bengal Film Journalists' Association Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for the film Shironam (2020).

Early Life

Ankita Chakraborty was born on August 18, 1986, in Kolkata, West Bengal, India, into a Bengali Hindu family. She has a younger brother, Shayon Chakraborty, who is also a filmmaker. She earned a graduate degree in Arts and Drama from the University of Kolkata.

She began acting in theatre when she was in the 12th grade. She made her acting debut in the play Aguner Barnamala with the theatre group Drishyopot, directed by Anirban Bhattacharya, in 2006. The play became very popular, and many work opportunities started coming her way. However, at that time, her mother did not allow her to pursue them. But after high school, she started working—whether it was due to disagreements with her mother or other reasons.

Career

Ankita Chakraborty made her debut in Indian Bengali television with the serial Kakhono Megh Kakhono Brishti, directed by Anindya Sarkar. After that, she appeared in many television serials, but she gained widespread recognition for her role as Prof. Kamalika Mukherjee (Mun) in the popular Bengali serial Ishti Kutum (2011–2015), directed by Saibal Banerjee and Diganta Sinha.

In 2014, she made her Bengali film debut in the mystery thriller Byomkesh Phire Elo, directed by Anjan Dutt. She went on to appear in the successor films of the series, including Byomkesh Bakshi (2015), Byomkesh O Chiriyakhana (2016), and Byomkesh O Agnibaan (2017). She also appeared in films like Kiriti Roy (2016), Ebong Kiriti (2017), Pornomochi (2018), Shankar Mudi (2019), Golper Mayajal (2021), Kadambari Aajo (2022), Flat Thekey Paliye (2022), and Carcat (2024)

Personal Life

Ankita Chakraborty moved to Mumbai for work in 2016–2017 and faced many challenges. During this period, she experienced a breakup, lost her nine-year association with the Bengali film industry, and went through a severe phase of depression, even attempted suicide multiple times. However, she managed to overcome these difficulties and rebuild her life.

Ankita Chakraborty found love and support in her long-time friend, Bengali actor Prantik Banerjee. Their friendship of over 12 years blossomed into a relationship during the COVID-19 pandemic, and they got married on January 1, 2022, in a private ceremony in Sikkim.
