George Linde: South African All-Rounder

George Linde is a South African cricketer who plays as an all-rounder, known for his left-arm orthodox spin and left-handed batting. He made his international debut for the South African cricket team in October 2019 against India.

Early Life

George Fredrik Linde was born on December 4, 1991, in Cape Town, Cape Province, South Africa. He attended school in the northern suburbs of Cape Town, where he started his cricket journey as a seam-bowling schoolboy. However, he switched to spin bowling during his teenage years after being selected for the Western Province Under-13 team.

Domestic Career

George Linde has played for various domestic teams, including Western Province, Cape Cobras, Cape Town Blitz, South African Invitation XI, Benoni Zalmi, South Africa A, Kent, MI Cape Town, Sylhet Strikers, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Durban Wolves, Quetta Gladiators, and Lahore Qalandars.

In 2015, he was included in the Western Province cricket team squad for the Africa T20 Cup. In October 2017, he was named in Benoni Zalmi's squad for the inaugural season of the T20 Global League.

In 2018, he was named in the Cape Cobras squad for the 2018–19 season. That same year, he was also named in Cape Town Blitz's squad for the first edition of the Mzansi Super League T20 tournament. In 2019, he was again named in the Cape Town Blitz squad for the Mzansi Super League tournament.

In the 2019–2020 CSA 4-Day Franchise Series, Linde achieved his tenth five-wicket haul in first-class cricket. In 2020, he was named the Four-Day Cricketer of the Year at Cricket South Africa's annual awards ceremony. The following year, in 2021, he was included in Western Province's squad ahead of the 2021–2022 cricket season in South Africa.

In 2021, Linde was signed by the Multan Sultans to play in the rescheduled matches of the Pakistan Super League. In 2022, he signed a two-year contract to play for Kent County Cricket Club in England. That same year, he joined the Sylhet Strikers in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

International career

On 19 October 2019, George Linde made his Test debut for South Africa against India. He made his T20I debut for South Africa against England on 27 November 2020. On 4 September 2021, he made his ODI debut for South Africa against Sri Lanka. In 2021, Linde was named as one of three reserve players in South Africa's squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
